City of Melrose issued the following announcement on Oct. 15.
There has been a bunch of Stearns County businesses that have accepted counterfeit $100 bills. Please make sure you are checking them before accepting them. They are appeared to be washed $10 bills, that are made into $100 bills. A marker will show that it is real. Check the strip on the back in a light to make sure it shows 100 not 10. Call the PD if you suspect a fake bill or want us to check it. Also any information on the person or persons involved.
