Representative Paul Novotny (R–Elk River) has called for increased accountability and transparency from state leaders following a cybersecurity breach in Saint Paul. The incident, which left the city operating with limited digital functionality, has prompted concerns about the management of critical government systems.
Nearly two weeks after the breach became public, city officials have not provided clear details regarding its scope, severity, or how long it will take to resolve. Novotny and other House Republican leaders have directed their questions to St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter.
They are seeking information on several key issues: when full access to city systems will be restored, which specific systems were compromised or remain unavailable, whether any data involving employees or residents was accessed or exposed, if payroll operations have been disrupted, and whether any state, county, or federal systems have also been affected.
In a letter to Mayor Carter, Republican leaders stated their expectations for a briefing on the situation by August 12, 2025.
"Enough Is Enough — Leaders Must Be Held Accountable For Mismanagement And Lack Of Transparency," said Rep. Novotny in his statement.
