Paynesville Public School District secures eighth spot in student Reading test participation in 2021-22 school year

Paynesville Public School District ranked eighth in the Stearns County for test participation, with 463 students taking the Reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of Paynesville Public School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year rose by 19.6% over the previous year.

Paynesville Public School District's students achieved an average Reading proficiency rate of 39% in 2021-22 school year.

Third grade students stood out with 14% of them exceeding standards in Reading, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, eighth grade students had the most room for improvement, with 60% not meeting the expected standards.

Paynesville Public School District encompasses schools within Stearns County and has a main office in Paynesville.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
