In December 1967 (55 years ago this month), the first heart monitoring equipment began being used at St. Cloud Hospital.
The two-bed CCU (Coronary Care Unit) opened in September 1967 as part of the intensive care area and monitoring equipment soon followed.
This special equipment, manufactured by American Optical and Electrodyne Company, monitored the pumping heart's pumping action electrodes placed on the patient's chest.
This specialized care and the devices that support it grew tremendously in subsequent years!
