St. Cloud Area School District 742 issued the following announcement.
COVID-19 transmission rates are rising in our community. Local health experts and Stearns County officials are projecting a continued increase in these rates over the coming weeks. When case rates rise above 50, the Governor’s Safe Learning Plan requires we consider the impact of COVID on our community and schools, the recommendations of local public health officials and the medical community, and the operational challenges of increasing numbers of students and staff in quarantine.
Having completed this analysis in consultation with our local health officials, St. Cloud Area School District will transition to distance learning for preschool, elementary and alternative programs students on November 30. Secondary students in the district are currently in the distance learning model.
The schedule below provides a timeline of the transition.
November 23-25: No school for PK-5 students. PK-5 staff will use this time to prepare for the transition to the distance learning models as allowed by the Safe Learning Plan.
November 26-27: Thanksgiving break and end of trimester one
November 30- December 22: Distance learning for PK-5 students
December 23-January 3: Winter break
January 4: Return to hybrid learning model
Free meals will be distributed to families via neighborhood drop locations. Exact times and locations of meal delivery will be provided to families in advance of the transition.

During the distance learning time period, it is strongly recommended that students stay home and not be in close contact with others.
Our priority is to have all of our students back in school, every day. We want and need all our students to return to in-person learning as soon as it is safe, and this transition to distance learning is supported by our local medical experts as a necessary step toward this goal.
