The Minnesota Senate has voted for the fourth time to end Gov. Tim Walz's emergency powers.
“Although we don’t have the support we need from the House of Representatives to enact this resolution and restore the legislative process, we still take this vote on behalf of all of our constituents who repeatedly ask for the governor’s powers to end,” Sen. Jerry Relph (R-St. Cloud) said in a press release from the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus. “We remain committed to listening to the voices of the people of Minnesota who are ready to once again engage with their local elected leaders for guidance through the fight against COVID-19.”
Walz has had the longest peacetime emergency powers in history, which have been in effect since March 13.
The vote was passed by bipartisan support in the Senate and will now head to the Minnesota House of Representatives to vote on. The House must have a majority vote for the bill to be adopted.
