After the COVID-19 pandemic caused service providers to lose business, over $20 million in funding was passed by the Minnesota Senate to provide retention grants for the service providers.
“Service providers are vitally important to our communities,” Sen. Jerry Relph (R-St. Cloud) said in a press release from Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus. “They provide the support and encouragement many Minnesotans with disabilities rely on to build a fulfilling and independent life. With all the hurdles of this year, I am happy to support this funding so they can carry on their work in our communities.”
The funding is essential because these service providers have received next to no income over the course of the last few months. The bill will help offer grants that will fund two-thirds of a month's revenue to the service providers. While it can't make up for the months of loss, it can help regain stability.
Disability service providers will also see another $10 million go toward public health grants, according to the press release. This funding will make sure facilities have the resources and supplies to operate safely.
