Stearns County recently announced that it is receiving over $181,000 via the Lieu-of-Tax program.
The funding will be granted through a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources' Payment (DNR).
According to records, the program started in 1979. The program distributes payments to counties which helps them protect vital natural resources.
All of Minnesota's 87 counties will get a part of the $30 million that DNR distributes each year.
Joe Henderson, director of DNR's Lands and Minerals Division, said the payments help ensure that residents can enjoy Minnesota's landscape for many generations to come.
"PILT payments compensate counties and local governments for their role in helping protect vital natural resources for all Minnesotans, by helping replace property tax revenue these jurisdictions might otherwise receive," Henderson told KNSI. "This helps ensure that all people can enjoy the economic and recreational benefits of Minnesota's landscape for years to come."
Stearns County will be receiving $181,663.91, Benton gets $50,225.70, Sherburne $149,297.91 and Wright gets $253,342.59.
