The recent decision by Gov. Tim Walz to release $841 in federal CARES Act fund to local governments across Minnesota was hailed by Sen. Jerry Relph (R-St. Cloud) as being the right move to make.
In a release published on the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus website, Relph both praised the release of funds to local government as agreed to by the legislature, and criticized the lengthy process required to make it possible.
“It’s unfortunate this became a victim of partisanship during the special session – and I would prefer the governor work with the legislative branch to get these things done right,” Relph said. “It’s the legislature’s job to make sure our communities are getting the state and federal support they need."
The $841 million to be distributed to counties, cities and townships according to population is just under half of the $2 billion in CARES Act funds Minnesota received, according to the release.
