Sen. Jerry Relph (R-St. Cloud) is praising the city’s police department for its recent handling of violent protests.
“I could not be prouder of the St. Cloud Police Department for their remarkable professionalism and empathy as they were confronted with unrest,” Relph said in a post on the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus website. “I believe that is a result of the leadership of Chief of Police Blair Anderson and the relationship the police department has with our community."
The MNSRC website states Relph commended the department after the second consecutive night of protests occurred in the city.
“I was extremely disheartened to hear of a second night of looting and violence in St. Cloud,” Relph said in the post. “There were reports of gunshots in the crowd, people throwing rocks, assaults and dumpster fires, but the swift action of the St. Cloud Police Department stopped the unrest from becoming unmanageable.”
Minnesota Public Radio reports the protests have been sparked by the death of George Floyd.
