A Stearns County judge issued a temporary restraining order against the owner of Shady’s Hometown Tavern to prevent the chain from reopening its six locations amid COVID-19.
Pioneer Press reports that the Shady’s owner Kris Schiffler planned to reopen his bar earlier than Gov. Tim Walz administration’s proposed date of June 1. Restaurants and bars have been limited to takeout, curbside and delivery service options since mid March.
“They’re just trying to make a living,” Schiffler’s attorney Gary Leistico said. “This is just not good government, in good faith.”
The Walz administration is currently working on guidelines that will safety allow restaurants and bars in Minnesota to reopen.
All of the Shady’s locations—Albany, Burtrum, Cold Spring, New Munich, Rice and St. Martin—are in or near Stearns County which is the second biggest hot spot for confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state.
While Shady’s has been prohibited from reopening, many other businesses have been allowed to reopen such as shopping malls.
