City of Big Lake issued the following announcement on April 24.
Learn the basics of vegetable and flower gardening in this series presented by the City of Big Lake, Big Lake Community Education, and the Sherburne County Master Gardeners. Registrants will attend monthly virtual workshops via Zoom throughout the summer to learn the basics of planting, maintaining, harvesting and more. There will also be time for registrants to ask the Master Gardener questions about their garden. This series if FREE, but please pre-register!
Be sure to register only once per household and input the number of potential attendees from your household.
Registrants will need access to their own garden. If you do not have access to garden space, please contact Tom Wyatt-Yerka at 763-307-6040 or twyatt-yerka@biglakemn.org prior to registering to check on availability of Community Garden Plots that are available for $25 from May-October 2020.
A limited variety of seeds will be available for pick up at City Hall by appointment. Registrants will be responsible for the purchase of any additional supplies and equipment.
Registrants will need access to a phone or computer with audio capabilities for each workshop.
Workshops start at 6PM on the 3rd Tuesday of the month with an additional kick-off meeting in early May.
Workshop dates are as follows: May 5, May 19, June 16, July 21, August 18, September 15 and October 20.

June – Plant Hardening, Planting, Fertilizers, Compost
July – Plant Maintenance, Staking
August – Pathogens and IPM
September – Harvest
October – Putting Your Garden to Bed
