CITY OF BECKER: Trim Trees in the Right-of-Way

Treetrimming

City of Becker issued the following announcement on April 24.

Per City Ordinance, Chapter 7, Section 7.08, the City shall have control and supervision of planting shrubs or trees upon or overhanging all streets or other public property.  It is noteworthy that this encompasses the trimming of trees that are overhanging City sidewalks and roads.

In the past, the City has performed these duties at no cost to the resident.  Please note that as of the beginning of 2020, the City will now be charging residents for this service.  The City will monitor this yearly.  Should a resident not comply, they will receive a letter stating that they have 10 days to correct the violation and trim the trees so that they are 8 feet from the ground.  If this matter is not taken care of, the City will perform the work and then charge the resident for the work that was conducted.

Please see the below rates:

  • $125 for 1st ½ Hr. and as a minimum fee
  • $52.50 per 15-minute intervals after the minimum fee
  • This is only for trees that are affecting the City ROW, streets, sidewalks and trails.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please contact the Public Works Department at 763-200-4275.
