City Of Elk River issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.
The Elk River City Council met for a regular meeting on Monday, November 7, 2022.
On the Consent Agenda, they hired Logan Hemmesch as a paid on-call firefighter and Daniel Hampton for the vacant park maintenance worker who is also an Elk River firefighter. They authorized the execution of a grant agreement with the State of Minnesota for a Toward Zero Deaths traffic safety grant, approved the purchase of replacement trucks that had been delayed the past two years due to the pandemic and computer chip shortages and approved the public improvements (streets, sidewalks, and utilities) from four new housing developments that were completed this past year. They also completed the sale of city property to GATR Truck Center in Natures Edge Business Center III.
Mayor Dietz swore in Police Officers Dakota Schafer and Ryan Cowley, both of whom have completed their field training and are ready to serve the community.
Under General Business, the Council appointed Levi Aesoph and Anthony Miller to the Energy City Commission, and approved an ordinance to regulate and license businesses selling cannabinoid products, which will be effective January 1, 2023.
In their Work Session, they reviewed the 2023-27 Capital Improvement Plan, which is a plan of expected and scheduled replacement of vehicles, major equipment, technology, street, trail, park, and facility improvements. They also reviewed the updated budget proposed to be approved on December 5. The budget is consistent with inflation and includes a tax levy $107,000 lower that the preliminary levy passed in September and a tax rate nearly 4% lower than in 2022. Lastly, they approved the use of ARPA funds to replace the Multipurpose Facility Fund balance which was depleted during the facility construction and pandemic due to facility closure and revenue loss.
The next City Council regular meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 21.
